Answer Honestly and Objectively

Following yesterday’s post, I have compiled a number of questions that can guide emerging musicians, especially Christian musicians in their career.

These questions are to be answered honestly and objectively. Your answers are vital to you and no one else so ensure that you don’t lie to yourself.

Here we go…
Why music?

Why Gospel music?

What drives your music?

What do you intend to get out of this music?

What is your calling as a gospel musician?

Do you consider yourself a music minister?

Do you understand that as a minister, all you do on stage is but 20% of your job description and until you engage the other 80%, you are just a singer like the lest of the bunch?

Do you know music is not a calling and nobody is called into music?

Do you know music is just a tool in the hands of a called man or woman?

Do you know the difference between gospel music and church music?

Which are you, a church musician, a gospel musician or just a musician who is a christian?

……………………………………………………………………….

Why not mainstream music?

What do you know about mainstream music?

Do you know that main stream music is not the same as secular music?

Do you know that God will support you if you remain a Christian musician doing mainstream music but won’t support you if you intend to make money off the gospel?

Do you know you have a better chance at preaching the gospel more effectively and to more people via mainstream music than church music?

……………………………………………………………………….

Who is your mentor?

Who is your pastor?

Do you think you are spiritually mature?

What are the characteristics of a mature christian?

How often do you seek God’s face in prayers and Bible study?

What area of music do you intend to focus on?

What type of music do you do or love doing?

What niche do you want to create for yourself in the music industry?

At what point in your life will you bow out of music?

If you had all the options, would you still do music?

What’s your plan B if music doesn’t work for you?
As you notice, most of the questions are tailored to help you find yourself. Some others reveal truths that you probably did not know. The main purpose of this series of questions is to ensure that you aren’t in the wrong place even if its for the right reasons.

I hope this helped you. If you need further clarifications or help, connect with me and we’ll trash it out.
